Palin is the daughter of Teddy & Heather Meyer, who have been active members of the St. Augustine community for years. Teddy is the Head Coach for Women’s Soccer at Flagler College, and until her daughter’s birth Heather was a Special Education school teacher for St. Johns County.
Palin is currently undergoing growth hormone therapy, but is struggling with sleep apnea, a feeding tube, and hypotonia. PWS affects one in 12,000 to 15,000 births, and is characterized by an insatiable appetite that cannot learn to be controlled because of a dysfunction of the hypothalamus region in the brain; and rapid weight gain on few calories because of a malfunctioning metabolic system. There is no cure to date, and no medications or procedures that stave off the relentless hunger. For more information on PWS, visit www.pwsausa.org .
