The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village Captures ConventionSouth’s "Readers’ Choice Award"
ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (March 2008) – The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village, located adjacent to the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida, has captured ConventionSouth magazine’s prestigious "Readers’ Choice Award." Only the top vote getters out of approximately 2,000 meeting sites and Convention & Visitors Bureaus receive this award, which was presented to Mark Schwantner, general manager of the Northeast Florida resort.
"Meeting planners throughout the United States who book events in the South were asked to nominate meeting sites based on their actual experiences," said ConventionSouth editor Kristen McIntosh. "Award winners were carefully chosen by an awards selection committee based on the quantity of nominations received, the quality of nominations received, and comments from and random interviews with many of the meeting planners who made the nominations."
This award comes just as The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village is completing an impressive $10 million property-wide renovation. The resort kicked- off the renovation in August 2007, and is now putting the final touches on the project, which is slated for completion by early May 2008. The project included the complete remodeling of all 301 guest rooms and suites, dramatic changes to the resort’s lobby atrium and entry area, remodeling of all guest room corridors, new lighting throughout the public spaces, remodeling of its billiard room, enhancements to the meeting offerings and business center, and even the addition of a new "signature scent." The resort also remodeled its restaurant and bar, which is to open in April 2008 as a new restaurant and bar called 500 South, An American Grill.
"We’re so honored to receive this prestigious distinction," said Schwantner. "It’s a great tribute to our staff to receive this award, especially considering that the voters selected our resort based on our previous facilities. Upon the completion of our impressive $10 million renovation, meeting planners and incentive specialists -- and their groups -- will just love our greatly enhanced resort."

Guest rooms and suites at the newly-renovated resort now feature all new furniture, soft goods, window treatments, and lighting. Guest rooms also boast new flat-panel screen LCD HDTV televisions, and the signature Marriott JackPack, which provides complete connectivity to the guests for laptops, MP3 players, digital cameras, and video game players. The new system also provides the option of listening to an MP3 player through the sound system.
The rooms and suites feature a contemporary design with an Asian feel, which includes rich red bed coverings with crisp white linens, along with a complementary color scheme of warm neutral gold. In-room offerings also include high-speed Internet access, two telephones with data ports, a wet bar and refrigerator, and in-room coffee. Bathrooms feature all new vanities, lighting, and wallpaper in a more modern design, as well as new granite countertops. All guest room corridors feature new carpeting with different shades of green accented by bright reds, blues and gold. Walls are covered with a rich, red wallcovering with gold accents, and new lighting illuminates the space.
The entry of the resort boasts beautiful new flooring, wood-wrapped columns, and accents of the Florida citrus colors. Guests now have the option to check-in at the front desk, or they may choose to check-in unassisted at the new kiosks positioned in the lobby. The entry leads to a dramatically remodeled 10-story atrium lobby, which now has a Colonial/Asian theme with new furniture in hues of blue and green, new carpeting, new lighting, an enhanced waterfall and stream, and lush foliage (including bamboo) throughout to fit the Asian theme. Probably the most dramatic change to the atrium is the addition of a new 7-story modern hanging sculpture that captures the wind and air elements, reminiscent of open Florida skies.
The new restaurant, named 500 South, is adjacent to a bar in the lobby and will boast a picturesque full-length wine wall, as well as colorful new furniture, warm wood tones and new lighting. The restaurant will specialize in New American Regional Cuisine, using the freshest ingredients in the region, and will feature a large wine and cocktail list.
